Computational Medicine Postdoc Research Job @ FIMM Finland

Computational Medicine Postdoc Research Job @ FIMM Finland : The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research institute in Helsinki focusing on human genomics, personalised medicine and epidemiology. FIMM integrates molecular medicine research, technology centre and biobanking infrastructures and thereby promotes translational research and adoption of personalised medicine in health care. FIMM researchers are involved in several grand challenge projects, such as the impact of genome information on personalised health and medical interventions, development of individualised cancer medicine, and novel diagnostics via imaging of tissue and cells.

Computational Medicine Postdoc Research Job @ FIMM Finland

Postdoctoral Researcher in the Computational Systems Medicine Research Group

FIMM offers postdoctoral researchers an internationally recognized, unique biomedical research environment with an exciting combination of basic and translational research. FIMM has an excellent location in the Academic Medical Center Helsinki. A recent most livable city ranking from The Economist ranks Helsinki as the #8 in the world and #2 in Europe “most livable city”. Therefore, Helsinki is a perfect place to stay during a postdoc period.
Postdoctoral researchers at FIMM also benefit from the FIMMPOD Postdoctoral and Senior Researcher Program. This program for the postdoctoral and senior researchers aims to enhance research experiences and career opportunities of FIMM postdoctoral researchers.

FIMM is currently seeking outstanding candidates for the position of
Postdoctoral Researcher in the Computational Systems Medicine Research Group

Description: The Computational Systems Medicine research group led by Tero Aittokallio focuses on developing and applying integrated computational-experimental approaches to tackle biomedical questions, such as how genes function as interaction networks to carry out and regulate cellular processes, how perturbations in these networks contribute to complex traits, such as human diseases, and where and how in the disease network one should target to optimally inhibit disease phenotypes, such as tumour growth or metastasis.

The group is now seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher, with strong computational and analytical skills, and an interest in applying computational and systems biology approaches for analysing, modelling and integration of large-scale drug testing and molecular profiling datasets. As part of a multidisciplinary research consortium and grand challenge research in individualized systems medicine at FIMM, the group’s objective is to integrate genomic profiles of cancer patients with their drug response profiles, with the aim of proposing individualized treatment options based on response-predictive biomarkers.

Qualification and experience: A successful candidate holds a doctoral degree in a suitable field (computational biology, bioinformatics, biomathematics, biostatistics, computer science, or other relevant field), good computational and programming skills, a solid publication track record and a strong background in (as many as possible of): systems biology, network analysis, predictive modeling and analysis of high-throughput omics datasets. In addition, the candidate should be fluent in English and have good scientific writing skills.

Salary & contract: A two year contract is available for the position, starting as soon as possible, with a possibility for extension pending successful review. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications based on the Finnish university salary (YPJ) system depending on the credentials, previous experience and performance of the postdoctoral researcher.
How to apply: Application deadline is 21.10.2016 at 16.00 EEST. Applications are submitted by completing the application form and submitting a CV and a cover letter as a single PDF file (max 5 pages) in English at: https://elomake.helsinki.fi/lomakkeet/73078/lomake.html. Review of applications will begin after the close of the call and applicants will be notified of the results of the preliminary review by mid-November.

For further information of the position please visit our website at http://www.fimm.fi or contact Tero Aittokallio. For questions about the FIMMPOD program, please contact the FIMMPOD coordinators Milla Kibble and Gretchen Repasky.
