Proteomics Postdoctoral Fellow Job Opening @ Southern University Denmark

Proteomics Postdoctoral Fellow Job Opening @ Southern University Denmark: The University of Southern Denmark received its first students in Odense in September 1966. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength. We now have five faculties and about 32,000 students, more than 15% of whom come from abroad. Our more than 5,400 employees are divided between the main campus in Odense and regional campuses in Slagelse, Kolding, Esbjerg, Sønderborg and Copenhagen. Several international reports testify that we conduct world-class research and belong to the Top 50 of the world’s young universities. Proteomics Postdoctoral Fellow Job Opening @ Southern University Denmark

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Functional Proteomics: Identification of Molecular Regulatory Mechanisms by Temporal Protein Profiling during Cellular Differentiation

Proteomics Postdoctoral Fellow Job Opening @ Southern University Denmark

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Southern Denmark (Professor Ole N. Jensen and Assistant Professor Veit Schwämmle) invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellowship within the field of proteomics and bioinformatics to be filled by 1 July 2017 or soon thereafter. This VILLUM Foundation postdoctoral fellowship has a duration of up to two years, with a possibility for extension.

The proteomics research project entails the systems-level analysis of temporal abundance profiles of proteins and their post-translational modifications (PTMs, e.g. phosphorylation, acetylation) during cellular differentiation. The candidate will develop experimental and computational workflows to elucidate the molecular mechanisms and regulatory features that initiate and maintain specific cellular lineages. One particular focus will be the implementation of computational methods and smart visualization concepts for in-depth analysis of the proteome and PTM-ome obtained by mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The aim is to bring biological interpretation of these systems a large step forward.

The Protein Research Group offers a strong international research environment in protein chemistry, biomolecular mass spectrometry, and computational proteomics. The VILLUM Center for Bioanalytical Sciences at SDU provides world-class facilities for proteomics and mass spectrometry research. Our computational proteomics efforts include the implementation of PTM database tools, statistical analysis for deciphering PTM cross-talk in protein networks, and quantitative functional proteomics (Schwämmle et al. (2016) Mol. Cell. Proteomics 5(8):2715-272; Casanovas et al. (2015) Chem Biol. 22(3):412-425; Schwämmle et al. (2014) Mol Cell Proteomics 13(7):1855-1865).

We are seeking outstanding candidates who obtained the degree of PhD within the last three years (after 1 June 2014). The candidate must have documented experience in protein biochemistry, proteomics, bioinformatics or biostatistics, as demonstrated by at least one first-author publication in an international scientific journal. Expertise in the investigation of protein mass spectrometry data and programming experience is an advantage, but not a requirement. Candidates will be part of a research team, and good interpersonal skills and fluency in the English language (reading/writing/speaking) is a requirement. The successful candidate will manage independent research projects and assist in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
