Applied Science Postdoctoral Job @ TU Delft | Netherlands

Post-doc: Hybrid PET/MRI for Diagnosis of Breast Cancer

Department/faculty: Applied Sciences

Level: PhD degree

Working hours: 38 hours per week

Contract: 3 years

Salary: €3044 to €3997

Applied Sciences

The Reactor Institute Delft (RID) and the research department Radiation Science and Technology (RST) jointly form the Dutch national centre for academic research and education on the production and use of ionising radiation. The department’s research programme focuses on applications related to health and sustainable energy.

The research and education of the Radiation and Isotopes for Health (RIH) section focuses on the use of radiation and radioisotopes in the health sciences, in particular on the development of innovative approaches for the application of radiation and isotopes in medical imaging and therapy. To this end, RIH performs research on new production pathways and applications of radioisotopes, on the in-vivo imaging of radionuclides for medical diagnosis and research, and on the development of new methods and instrumentation for clinical therapy and diagnosis.

Job description

Breast cancer remains the most lethal form of cancer in women. Positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are key medical imaging modalities in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. In the HYPMED project, a novel, hybrid PET/MRI system for the early diagnosis and targeted treatment of breast cancer will be developed. The HYPMED consortium consists of European universities, companies, and academic hospitals, who will jointly carry out the technical development and clinical testing of the novel device. The HYPMED PET/RF insert will enable transforming any clinical MRI system into a dedicated PET/MRI device that will detect even the smallest tumors and provide better estimates on their biological aggressiveness.
