BioMedical Informatics Research Associate Job @ Ohio State University: The Ohio State University, commonly referred to as Ohio State or OSU, is a public university in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1870 as a land-grant university and ninth university in Ohio with the Morrill Act of 1862, the university was originally known as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College (Mech). The college began with a focus on training students in various agricultural and mechanical disciplines but was developed into a comprehensive university under the direction of Governor Rutherford B. Hayes, and in 1878 the Ohio General Assembly passed a law changing the name to “The Ohio State University”. It has since grown into the third-largest university campus in the United States.

Position summary

Research Associate 1-B/H (Job Opening 425217) – Research Associate 1-B/H to participate in planning, designing and managing research projects investigating breast cancer associated tumor suppressor, BRCA1; performs, designs and executes complex laboratory experiments; participates with overseeing daily operations of the research laboratory; performs advanced procedures with tissue culture work, subcloning plasmids, expression and purification of recombinant proteins, immunofluorescence microscopy, 1D and 2D protein gels; provides research support under the supervision of the principal investigator; manages lab databases; orders, stocks and maintains supplies and equipment; participates in the development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques; designs and executes lab experiments based on broad instructions from the principal investigator; collects and analyzes research data; collaborates with principal investigator in writing manuscripts, articles, abstracts and research reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals; assists with the development and preparation of grant proposals to obtain outside funding in support of research; trains post doctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and other laboratory research staff; assists with upkeep of laboratory and equipment; monitors and enforces laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations; and performs other duties as assigned

Education and experience

Masters degree in Biology or Zoology required; Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research preferred; Experience in a biological/health research capacity preferred; computer skills with knowledge of database software applications desired; requires successful completion of a background check; Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen
