Profile of the candidate

Our chytrid research group comprises 4 postdoctoral researchers and 5 PhD students. Studying as a PhD student in our group offers an opportunity for young researchers with a pronounced interest in basic research, herpetology, microbiology and biological conservation.

Our laboratory has a strong expertise both in diseases of amphibians, in microbial pathogenesis and in designing measures to control animal diseases. All tools for in-depth studies of host-pathogen interactions are available, including a recognized laboratory animal unit. The UGent doctoral schools offer extensive possibilities for specialized PhD courses.

The candidate we are looking for is has a strong motivation to conduct hypothesis driven research in herpetology and microbiology, has a strong sense of urgency and a profound drive to answer difficult research questions.
