Cell Molecular Biologist Job Opening @ inStem: The Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (inStem), is a state-of-the-art research institute in Bangalore, India, dedicated to the study of stem cell and regenerative biology. An autonomous institute funded by the Dept of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, inStem emphasizes collaborative research in stem cell biology. inStem’s mandate to allow this cross-disciplinary, multi-pronged approach to research, straddles the divide between clinical and laboratory research in stem cell biology. In trying to answer intractable and challenging questions that face the field, inStem seeks to rewrite the paradigm of the research institute: without barriers and across disciplines.

Job Title: Associate Research Scientist / Research Scientist – Cell Molecular Biologist/Assay Development

Eligiblity: Master’s degree in the discipline of life sciences with minimum 2 to multiple years of academic or industrial work experience in the area of translational research or other relevant fields

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Substantial research experience in cell-based assay development like cell cycle analysis, cell survival/proliferation, FRET, immunocytochemistry, epifluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy and/or high-content imaging will be preferred
  • Knowledge of basic biochemistry (immunoprecipitations, Western blotting etc.) and molecular biology techniques (transformation cloning, stable cell line generation etc.) will be required
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized with ability to analyze and communicate data effectively
  • Excellent teamwork required and to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • In this position you will support chemical biology efforts underpinning new lead discovery by providing cell biology expertise including, but not limited to the following;
  • Develop, optimize and validate cell-based assay platforms for the hit to lead identification of small molecules in our drug discovery programs
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams like high throughput screening, computational biology, medicinal chemistry, structural biology and protein biology in the discovery and identification of small molecules
  • Plan experiments, order reagents and set up assay platforms and deliver them in a timely fashion
  • Regular data analysis, project updates, literature survey and presentations on the target
  • Participate in project team meeting and contribute to the projects intellectually

DUTIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Understanding of cell biology, molecular biology and assay technologies
  • Experience in using luminescence, fluorescence, TR-FRET, FP, fluorescent immunocytochemistry, high content analysis, automated microscopy, label-free and other in vitro detection technologies
  • Computer skills with experience in data analysis
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized, and have strong communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
