Chemistry jobs Canada | Research Officer position @ NRCC

Position Description: 

We are looking for a vibrant and dynamic Research Officer (RO) to support the Biotoxin Metrology (BTM) team of the Measurement Science and Standards (MSS) Portfolio. MSS maintains national research and technology development facilities in Halifax and Ottawa. These laboratories feature leading-edge equipment, including precision instrumentation for mass measurement (vacuum and watt balances), world-leading single-ion optical frequency determination, and a suite of mass spectrometers for speciation and quantification.

The Biotoxin Metrology group performs research on biotoxin chemistry, development of analytical methods for marine and freshwater algal biotoxins, and production of certified reference materials (CRMs) for algal biotoxins.

Job Responsibilities: 

The Research Officer will carry out the following activities:

  • innovative R&D work in the area of algal biotoxin chemistry and novel method development;
  • apply methodologies to support and enhance the biotoxin CRM output of MSS;
  • develop proposals for new research initiatives and provide service to NRC clients;
  • prepare research papers and technical reports and present results at appropriate meetings and conferences; and
  • provide guidance to other members of staff.

Education

  • PhD in Chemistry or a related field.

Experience

  • Extensive R&D experience relating to the chemistry (identification, structural elucidation) of algal biotoxins.
  • Significant experience with development of novel analytical and bioanalytical methods for algal toxin measurement.
