Chemistry PhD Fellowship @ University Of Copenhagen | Denmark:  With over 40,000 students and more than 9,000 employees, the University of Copenhagen is the largest institution of research and education in Denmark. One PhD fellowship is available in the group of Dimitrios Stamou in the Bionanotechnology and Nanomedicine Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen.

Suitable Candidate

  • The Candidate for the PhD must hold an MSc degree in nanoscience or biophysics.
  • Familiarity with fluorescence based assays and microscopy is a necessary requirement, in particular in relation to Confocal based instruments.
  • The candidate is expected to have theoretical background and experience with computer aided image treatment and statistical analysis.
  • Training and skills in the use of programming languages for high content analysis is a requirement, as Matlab or equivalent.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culturing, plating, transfection and imaging are necessary.
  • Candidates without any of the above necessary requirements will not be considered.
  • The candidates must work actively within an international, cross-disciplinary group of researchers: therefore strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory.

Project description

Using fluorescence microscopy and biophysical methods the student will characterise in living cells how membrane curvature affects the sorting and signalling of G protein coupled receptors and selected Ras isoforms.

Place and Terms of Employment

The PhD positions is 3 years and will be carried out in in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on salaried scholarships. The minimum starting yearly salary is DKK 309,109 yearly plus pension. Supplements can be added according to qualifications. Information about the PhD scholarship

The scholarship is awarded under the prerequisite that the applicant is found qualified and that the project is to be carried out in an internationally recognized and active academic environment.

It is expected that the Scholar follow recommendations and deadlines from the supervisor on writing reports and articles. The scholarship holder is obliged to carry out tasks related to lectures, exercises, laboratory exercises etc. as set by the Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

The scholarship is awarded accordingly to the regulations in The Ministry of Science, Technology and Development, Executive order no. 284, April 25th 2008 regarding the appointment of academic staff at the University.
