It is an exciting time to be a part of our expanding capabilities at Lilly Biotechnology Center in San Diego. The Global Computational Chemistry and Cheminformatics group is growing and will be a part of the state of the art, automated facility where excellence in innovation is thriving. This site embodies the heart of discovery and nurtures teamwork and collaboration on a daily basis. Our group is a critical component of Lilly Research Laboratories, supporting drug discovery efforts across Lilly’s therapeutic areas. This group is a part of the Molecular Design and Lead Generation Technologies within Discovery Chemistry Research and Technology (DCRT) and works to support and evolve the computational systems and capabilities that drive our discovery efforts for small and large molecule projects.
This position will specifically support the computational chemistry and Cheminformatics group efforts and has accountability for support of the DCRT drug discovery portfolio while advancing computational capabilities globally. You will work closely with computational chemistry, structural biology, discovery organization to support drug discovery efforts relative to the defined strategies. We are looking to add this position to our group early 2018.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Provide support for global DCRT portfolio needs and priorities.
  • Interact and liaise with DCRT Colleagues at the San Diego site, acting as a global computational spokesperson while offering local assistance and communication.
  • Support the development of small molecule, peptide and large molecule computational technologies in the context of ongoing discovery project assignments.
  • Participate in the development of computational chemistry/cheminformatics methods/applications to solve drug discovery problems


Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in computational chemistry / medicinal chemistry / physical chemistry / computer sciences or a related field.
  • Experience in Structure- and Ligand- Based Design, Molecular Modeling, Molecular Dynamics, docking, using expert modeling systems such as the Schrodinger and MOE software suites preferred.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • A solid understanding of computational chemistry and ligand or protein modeling methodologies including docking, pharmacophore modeling, similarity searching, QSAR, protein modeling, homology modeling, molecular dynamics and application of these technologies in solving drug discovery problems.
  • Proven track record in developing computational chemistry/cheminformatics methodologies in solving drug discovery problems.
  • Excellent scripting/programming skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as effectively collaborating in multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and scientific creativity are essential.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills are required as is the ability to effectively communicate across cultural global scientific community
  • Background in synthetic chemistry and medicinal chemistry
  • Experience in cheminformatics and bioinformatics
  • Experience in the use of expert modeling systems such as Rosetta, Spotfire
  • Experience in Knime and scripting capabilities
