Postdoctoral Researcher in the Epigenetics of Complex Diseases and Traits Group

FIMM offers postdoctoral researchers an internationally recognized, unique biomedical research environment with an exciting combination of basic and translational research. FIMM has an excellent location in the Academic Medical Center Helsinki. A recent most livable city ranking from The Economist ranks Helsinki as the #8 in the world and #2 in Europe “most livable city”. Therefore, Helsinki is a perfect place to stay during a postdoc period.
Postdoctoral researchers at FIMM also benefit from the FIMMPOD Postdoctoral and Senior Researcher Program. This program for the postdoctoral and senior researchers aims to enhance research experiences and career opportunities of FIMM postdoctoral researchers.

FIMM is currently seeking outstanding candidates for the position of

Postdoctoral Researcher in the Epigenetics of Complex Diseases and Traits Group

Description:

The Epigenetics of Complex Diseases and Traits Research Group led by Miina Ollikainen is focused on understanding epigenetic variation and its relation to complex traits and diseases, with a particular focus on obesity and metabolic syndrome. The research group applies statistical epigenomics approaches utilizing genome-wide DNA methylation and histone modification data, and the wealth of phenotypic data from well-characterized Finnish Twin Cohort Study participants and large-scale population-based cohorts.

We are currently seeking a postdoctoral researcher to develop analysis pipelines and perform (epi)genome-wide association analyses to assess the contribution of genome and epigenome to complex diseases and traits using twin study designs and population-based cohorts. The postdoctoral researcher will work with one of the world’s largest twin cohorts with genome-wide DNA methylation, histone modification, and genotype data. The postdoctoral researcher will be jointly responsible for coordinating the projects and supervising PhD students, and will participate in national and international collaborations, with both academic and industrial partners.

Qualification and experience:

The successful candidate should hold a doctoral degree in the field of life science, statistics or computational sciences and preferably have a strong track record in statistical or computational (epi)genetics, or registry-based epidemiological studies. Excellent knowledge of epigenetics and genetics, and prior experience in supervising, teaching and team leadership is highly valued. In addition, the candidate should be fluent in English and have good scientific writing skills.
Salary & contract: A two year contract is available for the position, starting as soon as possible, with a possibility for extension pending successful review. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications based on the Finnish university salary (YPJ) system depending on the credentials, previous experience and performance of the postdoctoral researcher.
How to apply: Application deadline is 21.10.2016 at 16.00 EEST. Applications are submitted by completing the application form and submitting a CV and a cover letter as a single PDF file (max 5 pages) in English at: https://elomake.helsinki.fi/lomakkeet/73078/lomake.html.

Review of applications will begin after the close of the call and applicants will be notified of the results of the preliminary review by mid-November.

For further information of the position please visit the FIMM website, the group website or contact Miina Ollikainen. For questions about the FIMMPOD program, please contact the FIMMPOD coordinators Milla Kibble and Gretchen Repasky.
This information is also available in pdf.
