EpiGenomics Postdoctoral Job @ FIMM | Finland
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER INDEPENDENT INSTITUTES
FIMM is currently seeking qualified and motivated candidate for the position of
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN EPIGENOMICS
for an Academy of Finland funded research project at Dr Miina Ollikainen’s group.
Dr Miina Ollikainen’s group is focused on understanding epigenetic variation and its relation to complex traits and diseases, with a particular focus on obesity and metabolic syndrome. Our research applies statistical epigenomics approaches utilizing genome-wide DNA methylation and histone modification data, and the wealth of phenotypic data from well-characterized Finnish Twin Cohort Study participants and large-scale population-based cohorts. (epigenetics.helsinki.fi)
The successful candidate is expected to design, conduct and analyze experiments and experimental data, develop new ideas that promote current research, prepare and publish scientific manuscripts, teach techniques to others, and together with the PI, be jointly responsible of coordinating the projects and supervising the PhD students. The candidate is also expected to bring new expertise to the team’s current research program, and participate in national and international collaborative research projects. The work includes for example developing pipelines and performing (epi)genome-wide association analyses using family and twin data as well as population based cohort data, harmonizing the epigenetic and phenotype data, planning analysis strategies for specific projects, as well as conducting and replicating association analyses using data primarily from the Finnish Twin Cohort study.
We offer a great opportunity to work in one of the world’s largest twin cohorts studying a variety of complex diseases and traits. Our epigenomics projects take advantage of the existing, well phenotyped and genotyped trait discordant MZ twin pairs from the Finnish Twin Cohort Study. We have genome-wide DNA methylation array data available from twins that have also been genotyped, and subsets have been studied by multiple different -omics platforms.
FIMM provides excellent training opportunities for postdoctoral researchers through the FIMMPOD postdoctoral program.
Qualification and requirements:
- The successful candidate should hold a doctoral degree in the field of life science, statistics or computational sciences and preferably a strong track record in statistical or computational (epi)genetics, or registry-based epidemiological studies.
- Excellent knowledge in epigenetics and genetics, and prior experience in supervising, teaching and team leading is highly appreciated.
- The candidate should have fluency in written and spoken English, excellent organizational, communication and problem solving skills, strong capability to work independently as well as cooperate harmoniously with other scientists.
Salary and Contract: The salary will be commensurate with qualifications based on the University salary system and is depending on the credentials, previous experience and performance of the postdoctoral researcher. The contract is available for 24 months initially. A successful candidate is expected to start in October 2016.
Application should be written in English and include a one page cover letter summarizing the applicant’s career plans, a CV with a list of publications and contact information for two referees, and PhD certificate and transcript of university studies.
Applications should be submitted as a single pdf file by emailing to ‘firstname.lastname@example.org’ with a headline “APPLICATION: FIMM OPEN POSTDOC POSITION (Group Ollikainen)” no later than Sept 1st, 2016.
For further information please visit our websites at epigenetics.helsinki.fi and www.fimm.fi, and/or contact Dr Miina Ollikainen (email@example.com). For any correspondence please use “FIMM OPEN POSTDOC POSITION (Group Ollikainen)” in the subject field.
