PhD researcher

Main conditions

  • Full time position for 36 months
  • min. 2000 Euro per month (depends on the country of employment)
  • Location options: Berlin (Germany), Copenhagen (Denmark), Ghent (Belgium), Kraków (Poland), Nottingham (United Kingdom)

Description of job
As a member of the EJDFoodSci project team you will be expected to work autonomously, perform state of the art research and deliver results on your specific PhD thesis topic. All PhD topics are co-ordinated to form the over-arching research project to:

  • develop innovations in malting and brewing technologies and new protocols for yeast preparation;
  • verify their impact on the quality and stability of the products;
  • acquire new scientific knowledge on formation and release of staling aldehydes.

You will be running your research at two universities of the consortium (one of them will be your employer) to obtain a double doctoral degree in food science and/or engineering, and a diploma issued by two universities. We will help you to achieve your goals by continuous professional training in the network of 6 European, top class universities, industrial secondments and support of experienced researchers.

Background

The project has received funding within Horizon 2020, Innovative Training Network-European Joint Doctorate program. The main aim is to create a new, international doctoral school in malting and brewing, and to train 8 early stage researchers (ESR) in an innovative, international PhD program, to become top-class specialists and professional leaders, highly demanded in the
job market, ready to introduce innovations and manage advanced research.

Key skills/qualifications

  • relevant master level education history in food science/engineering, microbiology chemistry/biochemistry, or other life sciences
  • fluent command of English in speaking and writing
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • strong organizational skills and drive for advanced research

Additional skills

experience in brewing/malting sector/research

scientific writing skills (documented by publications, etc)
