Postdoc in insect pathology

Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen (UCPH) invites applications for a position as postdoc in insect pathology. The postdoc will be a part of inVALUABLE “Insect Value Chain in a Circular Bioeconomy”, a new major Danish project supported by Innovation Fund Denmark aiming to perform research and innovation within insects as food and feed. inVALUABLE involves strong collaboration between academia and companies. The post doc will work on improving the understanding of factors influencing mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) health and performance. The studies will focus on interactions between mealworm nutrition (prebiotic and probiotic diets) and infection success of mealworm pathogens (fungi and bacteria). It is a 21 month postdoc position with start from 1 August 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Qualifications – selection criteria
Applicants must have an academic degree within insect pathology or related areas (for example applied entomology or insect immunology). Qualifications within several of the following scientific areas are required:

  • Insect rearing
  • Insect bioassays using microorganisms
  • Insect pathogenic fungi and/or bacteria

Furthermore it is an advantage to have:

  • Knowledge about the insect immune system
  • Experience with disease transmission
  • Experience with relevant molecular methods

The postdoc is also required to be enterprising, to possess good interpersonal skills and to be a team player.

The postdoc’s duties will include research within the project inVALUABLE, as well as teaching. The post may also include performance of other duties.

Terms of employment

  • The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting salary is currently up to DKK 408,730 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 69,893). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
