Position summary

Research Associate 1-B/H (Job Opening 425682) – Research Associate 1-B/H to participate in planning, designing and managing research on immune profiles of multiple sclerosis patients and models within the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity; participates in the development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques; designs and executes complex laboratory experiments; performs advanced biochemical and cellular techniques such as immunoprecipitations, western blotting, confocal microscopy, and flow cytometry; executes routine molecular biology techniques such as PCR; collects, analyzes and evaluates research data; sets up, operates and maintains laboratory equipment; manages the mouse colony including breeding and genotyping; collaborates with principal investigator to write manuscripts, articles, abstracts and research reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals; attends and presents at national and international scientific conferences, workshops and seminars; assists with the development and preparation of grant proposals to obtain outside funding in support of research; conducts critical analysis of research literature related to research being investigated; trains and/or manages work of graduate and undergraduate students, and other laboratory (or research) staff; monitors and enforces laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations; maintains laboratory notebooks; serves as laboratory manager; initiates orders; attends laboratory meetings; participates in department seminars and activities; other duties as assigned.
Education and experience

  • Mastera’s degree in biological sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience required;
  • ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research required;
  • experience in a biological/health science capacity preferred; training in flow cytometry, animal modeling, and immune-based assays highly desired.
  • Requires successful completion of a background check.
  • Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
