Molecular Endoscopy Professor Job @ FAU | Germany: Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (German: Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, FAU) is a public research university in the cities of Erlangen and Nuremberg in Bavaria, Germany. The name Friedrich-Alexander comes from the university’s first founder Friedrich, Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, and its benefactor Christian Frederick Charles Alexander, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach. In Germany, traditional liberal arts universities do not usually have an engineering school or department. However, FAU does have a distinct engineering faculty. FAU is the second largest state university in the state Bavaria. It has 5 faculties, 23 departments/schools, 30 clinical departments, 19 autonomous departments, 656 professors, 3,404 members of academic staff and roughly 13,000 employees.

W1 Junior Professorship for Molecular Endoscopy
at the Department of Medicine 1 – Gastroenterology, Pneumology and Endocrinology for an initial period of three years to be filled by the earliest possible starting date. Depending on successful evaluation, the appointment will be extended to a total of six years.

Description:

The successful candidate is expected to represent the field adequately in teaching and research, and to lead their own working group at the Department of Medicine 1. Excellent basic research and applied clinical research in endoscopy with a focus on establishing new endoscopic and endoscopic-microbiological techniques are expected. Expertise in high-resolution endoscopy is desirable and should be used to promote the development of innovative endoscopic strategies for diagnosis and therapy. The successful candidate is also expected to work closely with research associations at the Faculty of Medicine [Collaborative Research Centres, Research Training Groups, Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research, Leading-Edge Cluster Medical Valley, Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT)] and Priority Programmes at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen (e.g. the Comprehensive Cancer Center). The Faculty of Medicine offers degree programmes in medicine, dentistry, molecular medicine, medical process management and logopaedics.

Qualification:
Prerequisites for the position are a university degree in medicine, university level teaching experience and excellent academic working methods, usually demonstrated through an excellent doctoral degree. If the candidate was employed as a research associate (wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) or student assistant (wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft) before or after their doctoral degree, the total duration of this employment and the doctoral degree should not exceed nine years.
