Engineering Scientist Associate – GPS Performance Analyst
Hiring department: Applied Research Lab

Monthly salary: $5,400 – $6,500+ depending on qualifications

Hours per week: 40.00 Standard from 800AM to 500PM

Additional Information

Purpose
Conduct performance analysis of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data against published standards. Review and comment on updates to published standards. Develop new software and data analysis processes as standards evolve and new capabilities become operational.

Essential Functions

  • Perform analysis of GPS and other GNSS observation and navigation data by using established algorithms and independently developing new algorithms as required using Python and C++ software development and scripting.
  • Prepare yearly formal reports for public distribution to the GNSS community. Participate in government-led processes that review and improve GNSS definition documents. Document progress and results of work on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide guidance and assistance with technical analyses to other full time staff, external colleagues and student employees.
  • Identify new methods for GPS data collection and analysis. Participate in project reviews and technical interface meeting to present analysis results to sponsors and other external organizations. Present and publish work at professional conferences.
  • Identify future analytical software and hardware resource requirements. Assist software development team in implementing analytical algorithms. Represent ARL:UT and sponsoring organizations in external forums pertaining to GPS/GNSS research, policy, and inter-agency working groups. Assist with data archive organization and maintenance.
  • Further develop knowledge of GPS and related domains through research or technical literature.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer and information science or other applied sciences.
  • Experience developing software or classwork related to software development.
  • US Citizen: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position. Evidence of skills in the following areas: working with new technologies, being highly organized, planning and coordinating multiple tasks, effective time management, attention to detail, effective problem solving skills, using excellent judgment, working independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintaining a professional demeanor, working as a team member without daily supervision, effectively communicating with diverse groups of clients, working under pressure, accepting supervision and demonstrating regular/punctual attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree(s) in engineering, physics, or other natural science(s) or directly relevant work experience.
  • Experience with GPS data processing and analysis. Experience and skills developing data analysis tools/processes with Python and/or C++.
  • Knowledge of all GPS segments.
  • Experience working with GPS observation and as-broadcast navigation data. Eligibility for immediate access to classified information.
  • Understanding of GPS spacecraft dynamics. Work experience with software configuration management processes, e.g. git.
  • Work experience with basic utilities and protocols such as ssh, X Windows, sftp, bash.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux. Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 with a 3.5 in major coursework.
