2017BAPFGGWEF074 – PhD in Omics Bioinformatics and/or Systems Biology for Mycobacterium tuberculosis

The faculty of Medicine at the University of Antwerp has the following positions available:

PhD Student (m/f): in Omics Bioinformatics and/or Systems Biology for Mycobacterium tuberculosis

The University of Antwerp is a knowledge centre with more than 4000 co-workers.

Omics Bioinformatics PhD Student Job Position @ Antwerp University Belgium

The Centre of Whole Genome Sequencing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a FWO-funded collaboration between the University of Antwerp, Belgium (the Global Health Institute (GHI), department of Epidemiology and Social Medicine (ESOC), and VAXINFECTIO) and the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa (DST/NRF Centre of Excellence for Biomedical Tuberculosis Research and the South African Tuberculosis Bioinformatics Initiative (SATBBI).

The Centre of Whole Genome Sequencing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is actively generating and analysing large quantities of -omics data for MTB such as genome, transcriptome, methylome and proteome data. The Centre collaborates closely with the Advanced Database Research and Modelling (ADReM) group, part of the Department of Mathematics and Computational Science, and the Biomedical Informatics Research Center Antwerp (Biomina) at the University of Antwerp. These groups focus on big data analyses, and have expertise in life science data mining and management, bioinformatics, biomedical informatics, molecular networks and computational systems biology.

Prof Annelies Van Rie (Centre of Whole Genome Sequencing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis), and Prof Kris Laukens (ADReM and Biomina) at the University of Antwerp, are looking to further expand their groups with PhD candidate(s) that have an interest in big data analyses applied to MTB -omics data. The goal is to perform highly multidisciplinary translational research in order to improve the management and treatment of TB patients.
