Plant Science PhD Fellow Requirement @ University Of Copenhagen Denmark

Copenhagen Plant Science Centre (CPSC) at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is seeking a candidate for a 3-year PhD-scholarship commencing 1 September 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Project description

The Marquardt lab is interested in understanding the functional significance of abundant yet mysterious non-coding sequences present in genomes. We employ cutting edge budding yeast technology to identify the molecular mechanisms controlling transcription of non-coding sequences into long non-coding RNA (lncRNA). We disrupt these regulatory mechanisms in higher organisms such as Arabidopsis to study the functional roles of non-coding transcription in environmental responses.

We are looking for a PhD student enthusiastic about lncRNA transcription. Your main project will be to identify novel pathways controlling divergent non-coding transcription from gene promoters. You will develop and apply high-throughput genomics approaches to identify novel players. Further molecular characterization of these pathways will enable you to study the function of divergent long non-coding transcription in yeast, plant and human. The project is inter-disciplinary; you will work at the interface of the research areas: Chromatin Biology, Pol II Transcription and Non-Coding RNA. Your enthusiasm will help you to develop a current molecular understanding of these fields to push the boundaries of current knowledge.

Principal supervisor is Sebastian Marquardt, Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, email: sebastian.marquardt@plen.ku.dk
