You complement our international, multidisciplinary research team (PhDs, Engineers, PostDocs and Scientists) todrive innovations in advanced joining technologies in close-collaboration with our trusted partners from industry and academia.

Your Tasks

  • Principle researcher on the joining of dissimilar materials and miniaturized components by innovative applications of nanostructured brazing fillers, surface coatings and reactive interlayers.
  • Cutting-edge experimental investigations of diffusion, wetting, nucleation and phase formation at reacting interfaces by high-resolution Scanning Electron Microscopy (HR-SEM) and in-situ X-ray Diffraction (XRD) methods.
  • Active participation in running research projects with academia and industry in the field of advanced joining technologies, in particular, those related to nano- and micro-joining.
  • Close-collaboration with other lab experts (on e.g. XRD, TEM, DSC, XPS, AES, AFM and coating development) in the field of advanced joining technologies.

Your Profile

  • PhD degree inMaterials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy or Experimental Physics
  • Well-developed experimental skills in the microstructural characterization of interfaces in nanostructured materials, thin films and functional coatings by high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
  • Scientific know-how on the thermodynamics and kinetics ofdiffusion, wetting, nucleation and phase formation at reacting interfaces.
  • Practical skills on cross-sectional sample preparation methods, joining technologies (soldering, brazing, diffusion bonding) and/or in-situ mechanical testing methods are an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in highly-interdisciplinary research teams

Profound knowledge of English (oral and written) is mandatory; knowledge of German is an advantage.

This position is available immediately or upon agreement with an initial contract duration of 13 months with the possibility for extension.
