Responsibilities

The Zhang laboratory is seeking 2-3 postdoctoral fellows to develop novel methods and applications of single-cell sequencing. Our group collaborates closely with the recently established single-cell genome center at Dana-Farber. The postdoctoral fellows will work together with staff scientists and research fellows in the single-cell center and in the affiliated laboratories to (1) develop innovative experimental and analytical methods of single-cell DNA and mRNA sequencing; and/or (2) apply single-cell genomics to study genetic and transcriptional variations at the single-cell level in different in vivo and in vitro systems.

The postdoctoral fellows will be affiliated with the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School and the Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Qualifications:

  • Quantitative fellow
    Deep quantitative and analytical skills with doctoral research experiences in the following areas:
    applied mathematics, physics, computer science, computational biology, or bioinformatics;
    Familiarity with at least one programming language (Python, Java, C/C++ or equivalent) and one scripting language (R, Matlab, or equivalent);
    Strong interest in genomics and quantitative biology; previous knowledge/experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experimental fellow
    Solid skills in molecular biology and/or live-cell imaging/cell biology with doctoral research experiences in the following areas: cancer biology, genetics, cell biology, chromatin biology, DNA damage/repair;
    Strong interest in developing high-throughput assays for quantitative biology and systems biology;
    Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with experimental and computational colleagues.
  • Engineering fellow
    Strong interest in developing instruments or devices for isolating and manipulating single cells;
    Doctoral research experiences in microfluidics, robotics, biophysics, or other relevant areas;
    Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with biologists and clinicians.

All fellows are expected to have excellent English communication and scientific presentation skills.
