Scientist | Gene Editing @ Spotlight Therapeutics, Hayward, CA: We are hiring a scientist (Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field)  to characterize and improve the activity of gene editing reagents in mammalian cells. The scientist will work collaboratively with Spotlight immunologists, protein engineers, and in vivo editing specialists to answer challenging and exciting questions at the intersection of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Immunology.

Research programs initiated by this Scientist will investigate the function and subcellular localization of editing reagents in a variety of different tissue types and model organisms. The ideal candidate must possess outstanding scientific instincts and a broad toolkit of experimental techniques, and be comfortable working in an energetic and fast-paced startup environment.

Excellence in at least one relevant field (Molecular Genetics, Cell Biology, Small Animal Models) is required. Prior experience using gene editing reagents (Cas9, ZFNs, etc) and characterizing their activity (flow cytometry, Illumina sequencing, etc) is strongly desired.

Prior work in immunology or immuno-oncology and technical expertise in genomic data analysis or immunohistochemistry are added pluses.


  • Design and execution of experiments
  • Presentation of results to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Management of research associates
  • Collaboration with other scientific groups within Spotlight
  • Management of CRO relationships


  • Ph.D. with >5 years of relevant experience
  • Proven ability to work quickly and independently, as demonstrated by publications, pre-prints, or biotechnology projects, is required
  • Excellence in one of the following fields is required:
    Molecular genetics
    Cell Biology
    Mouse Models
  • Prior experience with flow cytometry desired.
  • Prior immunology experience desired.
  • Prior experience with Illumina Sequencing desired.
  • Prior experience with immuno-histochemistry desired.
