System Biology PhD Position Available @ Max Planck Germany

We are an established, DFG-funded Emmy Noether Research Group at the Max Planck Institute of Experimental Medicine, Göttingen.

We offer a PhD position in systems biology of chronic pain.

Our translational research focuses on the molecular underpinnings of painful pathologies in vertebrates. Specifically, in the last years, we have setup a successful interdisciplinary workflow for the discovery of proteome dynamics involved in chronic pain (Rouwette et. al., 2016; Gomez-Varela & Schmidt, 2016; Bruderer et. al., 2017a; Bruderer et. al., 2017b; please see our lab webpage for more information).

The offered project combines several techniques, i.e. biochemistry, high resolution mass spectrometry, bioinformatic data analysis, immunolabeling, calcium-imaging in neuronal cell culture and mouse behavior. The goal of the project is to reveal multi-protein signatures of chronic pain in preclinical mouse models and also in humans (as part of on-going clinical collaborations), and to further study their functional relevance and predictive/prognostic value.

Your profile

  • We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate with strong interest in biochemical and disease-related research.
  • Previous knowledge and/or hands-on experience in liquid chromatography (LC) and mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics is a definitive plus (the candidate will get further trained to analyze samples using state-of-the-art LC-MS instrumentation, i.e. QE-HFX).

The qualified candidate will benefit from working in the excellent, dynamic and international environment of the Max-Planck Institute of Experimental Medicine, which is embedded in the vivid collaborative structure of the Göttingen Research Campus (for more information please visit the institute’s website and the Göttingen Research Campus website). Further, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to take part in ongoing collaborations with biotechnological companies.

If you are interested in joining our young and enthusiastic team, please send us a cover letter (explaining your motivation and experience) and your curriculum vitae (including names and contact information for potential referees) via e-mail. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply.

Applications will be reviewed immediately and the position will remain open until filled.
