Theoretical Chemistry Postdoc Position @ Max Planck Germany

The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion in Mülheim an der Ruhr has been re-established in 2012 and the field of research has been aligned with the conversion of energy. Our scientists are engaged in basic processes that are essential within the storage and conversion of energy.

The department of “Molecular Theory and Spectroscopy” is presently looking for candidate for a Postdoc with a PhD degree in Theoretical Chemistry. The successful candidate will be supervised by Professor Dr. Frank Neese in the framework of computational chemistry applications.

Your responsibilities

  • The MPI CEC is presently looking for a candidate with a strong background in the theory of intermolecular interactions.
  • The candidate will carry out an exciting project in the framework of the German priority program SPP 1807 ‘Control of London Dispersion Interactions in Molecular Chemistry’.
  • The aim of the project is to apply domain based local pair natural orbital coupled cluster theory to the study of intermolecular interactions in a variety of systems.
  • Emphasis will be placed in a chemical interpretation of the results.
  • Collaborations with experimentally working as well as other theory groups are anticipated.

Your profile

  • You should have a PhD degree in theoretical chemistry with emphasis on computational chemistry.
  • Knowledge about coupled cluster theory and elementary skills in computer programming would be appreciated.

Our offer

The position is initially for 12 months and will be remunerated according to the wage agreement for the public service (TVöD). A prolongation for up to three years is possible.
